Think outside the cage
January 5, 2009 is a special day — it's National Bird Day!
"So what the heck is National Bird Day anyway?" you, or those you know, may ask.
Well, it's complicated.
Something Dirty at KFC
Something dirty is happening at Kentucky Fried Chicken, and it’s not the skinny-dipping in their kitchen sinks.
I was recently struck by the news of three KFC employees who were caught skinny-dipping in the sink of an Anderson, CA KFC. The news teams were interviewing scores of KFC customers who had just found out about this little after-hours bikini-clad romp, and the public was expressing general outrage at this apparently unhygienic atrocity.
Kids' Toys. The Naughty and the Nice

Our Hometown Zoo

The Thrill of Victory!
As I begin writing this blog, I am reminded of the old ABC television montage for weekend sports programming that featured the late Jim McKay declaring in voice-over, “The thrill of victory! The agony of defeat!”
Today, I feel like the part of the montage featuring victories! On Sunday, December 7, Team Elsa successfully completed the California International Marathon relay — and not without a bit of transportation drama, a late start, cold weather, and gray skies to boot.
We Do Cause Suffering ... but Apologize to No One
“We trappers do cause pain and suffering to animals and apologize to no one.” Reading this sentence makes my blood pressure rise. This comment is a trapper’s reaction to someone whose family dog was caught and killed in a trap. This man displays no empathy, no remorse. Instead, he just acts as if he’s entitled.
